CHICAGO -- June 5, 2013 -- Clune Construction founder Michael T. Clune has announced the firm's commitment to donate $1 million over several years to The Gateway for Cancer Research organization in Schaumburg, Illinois.
"Late last year I had the opportunity to become involved with The Gateway for Cancer Research and was highly impressed with the organization," said Clune. "I was deeply moved by their commitment to the cause of cancer research, and with their rigorous process for administering funds. Nearly 99 cents of every dollar donated to Gateway goes directly to cancer research, which is an exceptional percentage relative to other non-profits."
Clune Construction, a general construction company serving many major U.S. metropolitan regions, strongly encourages a corporate culture rooted in giving back to the areas it serves. "Supporting charitable causes and organizations has been a wonderful way for our company to get involved with our communities," Clune continued. "I encourage other organizations to do the same. It's a winning position for all involved; communities, employees and business."
The Gateway for Cancer Research is a non-profit organization that funds innovative, patient-centered cancer clinical trials throughout the world. "We were very excited when Mr. Clune became involved with our board last year, and now are absolutely thrilled with this incredibly generous financial commitment," said Karen Kay, Gateway's director of development. "Lifesaving cancer research is only possible when there are funds to support it. With this generous contribution, Gateway can provide significant funding to early phase cancer clinical trials investigating emerging therapies and innovative treatment approaches that can potentially alter the way cancer is treated today."
